Welcome to Your New Basketball Community
Youth Basketball Development for Athletes Who Want More.
COASTAL ELITE BASKETBALL HAS ESTABLISHED A NON-PROFIT ARM, Coastal Elite Sports Foundation.
NOW, WE NEED A BOARD!
Hello Coastal Elite Families,
As Coastal Elite continues to grow, I am taking the next step toward creating the Coastal Elite Sports Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting local youth athletes through scholarships, travel assistance, equipment funding, facility development, and community fundraising opportunities.
The goal is simple: ensure every child has access to opportunities regardless of financial circumstances while creating a sustainable future for youth sports in our community.
To accomplish this, I am looking for a small group of dedicated parents and community members to serve as founding board members.
This is not a coaching role and does not require extensive nonprofit experience. I am looking for individuals who:
Believe in supporting youth athletes
Want to help strengthen opportunities in Florence
Can attend occasional board meetings
Are willing to assist with fundraising ideas, community connections, and organizational guidance
Potential board positions include:
President
Treasurer
Secretary
Director-at-Large
As Founder and Executive Director, I will continue leading the day-to-day vision and operations while the board helps guide the foundation's long-term success.
One of our first goals is to establish scholarship funding and launch a community fundraising initiative that will help support athletes, including a mobile snow cone and concession program benefiting local youth sports.
If this is something you would be interested in learning more about, please reach out to me directly.
Together, we can build something that serves Florence families for years to come.
Thank you,
Deilah Johnson
Founder & Executive Director

🏀 Coastal Elite Basketball Club – Facility & Access Challenge Summary
Coastal Elite Basketball Club, based in Florence, is a growing youth development program dedicated to building disciplined, fundamentally strong athletes and creating a long-term pipeline for local high school success.
However, one of the most significant challenges facing the program—and youth athletics in Florence as a whole—is limited access to gym space.
🚧 The Core Issue
Florence currently has very limited indoor athletic facilities, creating ongoing barriers for:
Consistent practice scheduling
Program growth
Hosting games or tournaments
Providing equitable access for youth athletes
Access to gyms is often:
Shared between multiple programs and school teams
Restricted to limited time slots
Unavailable for weekend or evening use
Rarely have gym time
As a result, Coastal Elite must:
Constantly adjust practice schedules
Compete for space with other organizations
Travel outside the community for games and tournaments
🏀 Impact on Athletes & Families
This lack of facility access directly affects:
Player development – inconsistent practice time limits skill growth
Team cohesion – irregular schedules disrupt continuity
Family burden – increased travel to places like Medford or Eugene for games- extremely costly
Community engagement – inability to host home games reduces local support and visibility
Without a reliable home facility, local athletes are at a disadvantage compared to programs in larger cities with dedicated training spaces.
📉 Lost Opportunities for Florence
The absence of adequate gym space also limits:
Hosting tournaments that bring in tourism and revenue
Creating consistent community sporting events
Expanding youth programming across multiple age groups
Building a strong, unified basketball culture locally
Instead of bringing teams into Florence, the community is forced to send its athletes out.
🌟 The Opportunity
With access to a dedicated or more available facility, Coastal Elite could:
Establish consistent training schedules
Host leagues, tournaments, and community events
Increase participation and access for local youth
Strengthen the connection between youth programs and high school athletics
Contribute to local economic activity through sports tourism
Moving Forward
Addressing gym space limitations is not just about one team—it’s about:
Supporting youth development
Strengthening community engagement
Creating opportunities for local families
Building a sustainable future for athletics in Florence
